How to Find Your Sample Ballot for 2026
Published by Midterm Results Live · · Voting guide
Voting rules and dates can change. Confirm details with the official state or local election office linked in this guide.
A sample ballot can help you review the contests and ballot measures before voting. To find the official version for your address, use your state election website or contact your local election office. The U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) says state and local election offices are the best sources for information about what is on your ballot.
Find the official ballot for your address
- Open the EAC state and local voter information directory and choose your state or territory.
- Follow the official state election website or local election office directory. Look for a sample-ballot, voter-information, or ballot lookup service.
- Use the address and other details requested by the official lookup. If there is no online ballot tool, contact your local election office and ask how to get the official sample ballot for your residence.
USA.gov explains that sample ballots show the candidates and state or local issues that appear on a ballot. The state or local office can confirm which ballot applies to your address. Our state election guides link to official election resources; use the office's own lookup for your ballot.
Sample ballot or voter guide?
A sample ballot previews the contests and candidates. A voter guide provides background information about candidates or ballot measures. USA.gov notes that states may mail sample ballots or make them available on an election website; availability and format depend on the state or local office.
For nonpartisan information on how to vote, begin with USA.gov's voting guide and the EAC's voter FAQs. For registration, dates, and locations, check your official state or local source, or see our voter guide.
